Leeds United manager Steve Evans believes the January transfer window is always over inflated, which makes it harder to sign players.

While the Whites did manage to sign Mustapha Carayol and Toumani Diagouraga in January, they also lost Sam Byram to West Ham and despite assertions of working on deals, failed to sign any new faces on transfer deadline day.

The Leeds fans were left disappointed with the club’s apparent lack of activity towards the end of the window; Evans insisted that the club did try their luck, but eventually failed to get one or two deals over the line.

However, assessing the January transfer window as a whole the Scot indicated that signing players in the winter is difficult as the market is always inflated, which was evident in some of the sums paid towards the end of the window.

The Leeds boss said in a press conference: “From our point of view we tried to get a couple in, but it never really came together [at the end]

“I don’t see the January transfer window ever where it can be fair, in terms of what you are paying or what you don’t pay as it is an inflated market in January and I think we have seen that with some of the deals that have been done.”

Leeds are looking towards the summer for the bulk of their transfer activity as Evans looks to build a team good enough to challenge for promotion next season.
