Deflation Threat Abates as Spanish, Italian Prices Improve

A slump in Spanish consumer prices eased in May and Italy’s rose for the first in three months, signaling that deflationary risks in the euro area are abating.

Spain’s prices on EU-harmonized basis slid 0.3 percent, the least in seven months, while Italy’s increased 0.2 percent, more than economists had forecast, according to data published in Madrid and Rome on Friday.
