Masters of War
Presentation to a book club by Peter McKenzie-Brown The arts have an enormous impact on the life of society, and today I want to briefly give an example. The arts include such traditional forms as paintings, plays and the visual arts. To illustrate, here's how a piece of poetry helped alter American foreign policy. To begin, consider Dwight D. Eisenhower’s farewell address to the nation – a speech American TV networks broadcast on January 17, 1961. Despite being a politician with a mil

People Are ‘Dying In Hospital Corridors’ Under Britain’s Socialized Healthcare System
There’s new outrage overseas, as people are literally dying in the corridors of hospitals because of Britain’s overrun socialized medicine scam. Trump, Charlottesville and Gold
Last week, the counter-rally against the far-right protest in Charlottesville turned into tragedy. What does it mean for the gold market? As both the Fed and the ECB released the minutes of their last meetings, we have recently focused on monetary policy. However, the last week was also hot for Donald Trump. On August 12, there was a protest of far-right groups against the decision to remove the statue of Confederate General Robert E Lee. In response, a counter-protest was organized. But it ende

7 Years of Work on Food Forest Destroyed Over Permit
Via The Daily Bell Imagine working for seven years to build a community food forest. It would be a very fulfilling project to take a neighborhood and transform it into a living food source full of fruit trees, luscious vines, and edible ground cover. And imagine all your hard work being torn away in an instant by the city council. Literally torn away; what would you be thinking and feeling as they sent landscaping crews to tear out the trees, some with fruit still one them, and grind them into w

Walmart's Ominous Stock Market Signal
Companies like Walmart and McDonalds's have made their investors rich by squeezing costs and holding down prices. But it turns out that low costs means low wages, and as this model spread it contributed to the now-impossible-to-ignore migration of income and wealth from workers to owners of the capital and symbol manipulation skills that such a system demands. LNG Exports as a National Opportunity
It’s been a long time coming, but it looks as though flows of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Canada to Asian markets are about to become reality. A project known as Pacific Northwest LNG seems about to be confirmed by its partners. Barring negative decisions by either the BC Legislature – which was having a boisterous debate on the topic as this publication went to press – or by environmental officials in Ottawa, the project is in the bag.It could make its first deliveries late in 2018.
