The Never-Ending Wars of the United States of America
A Monday Morning Musing from Mickey the Mercenary Geologist"War is a racket. It always has been. It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives. A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of the people. Only a small 'inside' group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefi

The Sinking of the Lord Clive - Jeff Thomas
The image above is the 18th century home of friends in Colonia, Uruguay. Today, sitting on their back patio on the Rio de la Plata, I looked out at a small yellow buoy in the harbor that marks the final resting place of the Lord Clive, a large, 60-gun British warship from the 18 th century. In 1763, we British, already at war with Spain, decided to expand the venture to the New World. The Lord Clive arrived in Colonia, Uruguay and began firing into the tiny town. With her heavy contingent of ca

Sunken British warship laden with gold to be raised 250 years after battle
A sunken British warship wrecked off the coast of South America is due to see the light of day once again -- along with L1 billion in gold coins. The Lord Clive was blasted by cannon fire in 1763 after an attempt to reclaim Uruguay's Colonia del Sacramento, a former British colony that had been seized by the Spanish. While Captain Robert McNamara planned to launch his attack and take over the city at the end of the Seven Years' War, Spanish forces were secretly planning a counterattack. A battle

How To Win The “War On Gold”
Oh, the tangled web we weave, when we seek to deceive.  And sometimes, when we actually want to help – particularly when referring to vote-seeking politicians. Case in point, OPEC – which yesterday, pulled off the lie to end all lies in pretending to “cut production,” prompting the “oil PPT”-aided “market reaction it sought.  Thus, enabling it to kick the can a few more months – or perhaps, weeks – before the reality of history’s most oversupplied crude oil market inevitably smashes its elaborat

A Cash Ban is Coming to the US
India’s decision to ban Rupee notes above 500 has become the financial media’s topic du jour. However, India is in fact just the latest in a series of countries to ban physical cash in higher denominations. The war on cash has been going on since at least 2014 if not earlier. To that end, France has banned any transaction over €1,000 Euros from using physical cash. Spain has banned transactions over €2,500. Uruguay has banned transactions over $5,000. Outside of these countries Canada, Norway, D

The Global Cash Ban is Not Over... It's About To Intensify
The War on Cash is not over… it is about to intensify. The Trump Presidency has distracted from the next major move to be implemented by Financial Elite. That move is a cash ban. Cash, particularly physical cash (as in bills and coins) is a huge problem for insolvent banks. Indeed, it is the ONLY problem they have yet to address. If you’re a large bank and you’re overleveraged due to excessive assets to capital ratios (particularly assets that are at risk of losing value or default) there are th

Why Socialism is Here to Stay - Jeff Thomas
“[T]he government has to take resources from someone before it can dole them out to others. This act of taking destroys an economy. The more you take from the productive members of society, the less productive they become. That’s the primary lesson of the history of socialism.” The above quote is from Porter Stansbury – from his book, America 2020. It states a concept that I’ve described for years, but Porter states it more succinctly than I ever have. In particular, it negates the argument

Predicting the Efficacy of a Coming Revolution - Jeff Thomas
In much of what was once called “the free world,” governments and economies are in the throes of self-destruction. Before long, we shall witness revolution in several of these countries. The revolutions may prove to be violent, or they may prove to be “soft” revolutions – major changes in the political structure. They may vary anywhere from mere changes in the rhetoric of political hopefuls, to changes in the actual structure of governments. One incorrect assumption about revolution is that

Europe Is Now the Frontline in the War on Cash
Europe has banned the use of €500 bills. The reason? They claim these bills are used in money laundering and for drugs. And if you believe that is the concern, you probably believe the earth is flat. The fact of the matter is that Europe is now the center for misguided Central Planning for monetary policy. ECB President Mario Draghi has cut interest rates not once, not twice, not even thrice, but FOUR times into NIRP. The end result has been two items: 1)   A barely noticeable blip in EU in

A Cash Ban Has Already Begun...
The Central Banks hate physical cash. So much so they there will likely try to ban it in the near future. You see, almost all of the “wealth” in the financial system is digital in nature. 1)   The total currency (actual cash in the form of bills and coins) in the US financial system is a little over $1.36 trillion. 2)   When you include digital money sitting in short-term accounts and long-term accounts then you’re talking about roughly $10 trillion in “money” in the financial system. 3)   In

  Notes from the Locked Ward
The remaining Americans sound-of-mind must view the primary election spectacle with mounting sensations of wonder, nausea, and panic. It’s one thing for the financial system to crack up, and another thing for social norms to disintegrate, and still another for the political system to become a locked ward of obvious psychopathology. Even the neurosurgeon on duty went narcoleptic the other night when his name was called to take the stage. Last week

Blame Benjamin Strong
Here's something I've been meaning to get to for a long time. Let's look at the description of the supposedly disastrous "inflation" of the 1920s, as described by Murray Rothbard in America's Great Depression (1962), and see if it makes any sense at all. https://mises.org/library/americas-great-depression Rothbard was characteristic of a great number of "classical"-leaning economists who felt obligated to describe the Great Depression as basically a monetary event. I don't think it was. Th
