A beginner's guide to investing in Gold |
One’s motivation for buying gold is fundamental to deciding in which form you should buy it. Are you a speculator, investor or saver? Do you wish to take a short term speculative position in gold? Are you investing for the short, medium or long term? Or are you diversifying, saving or using gold as a form of financial insurance?Wednesday, March 3, 2021 |

Double Jeopardy |
The Constitution protects the citizen against "double jeopardy", that is, the judicial arm of the government cannot inflict harm on the citizen twice for one and the same reason. Apparently, the principle of double jeopardy does not apply to the monetary arm of the governmentMonday, February 1, 2021 |

What Happens to Gold and Silver When the Stock Market Crashes |
Many investors hold gold and silver to hedge against various crises. But does this hedge hold up during stock market crashes? It’s a common assumption that gold and silver prices will fall right along with the market. Fielding my grandson’s questions about gold and banking |
My grandson had quite a day at school. He had learned that the economy had been suffering from things called Panics, capital P, during the 19th century and had another big one in the early 20th century. He had been told that responsible, public-spirited men like J. P. Morgan had organized a central bank to prevent those Panics. He and other bankers finally got the government to go along with their idea and pass it into law in late 1913.And wouldn’t you know it — we’ve had no more Panics since then.Thursday, December 24, 2020 |

Why gold is better than cash |
The question most often asked of gold bulls is, “At what price will you take your profits?” It is a question that betrays a lack of understanding about why anyone should own gold. Nevertheless, the simple answer must be, “When paper money stops losing its value”. This response should alert anyone who asks this question to the idea that owning fiat cash is the speculative position, not ownership of precious metals.Saturday, November 28, 2020 |

Common Gold Silver Pitfalls to Avoid |
Investing in gold and silver may seem simple and straightforward, however it is not.
There are many types of ( quote, unquote ) "investments" in gold and silver you will want to avoid.
Gold and silver dealers are no different from any other industry or crowd of people.
Within our industry you will find many good honest professionals and organizations, but you will also find some bad outfits whose practices can be described as underhanded, even criminal.

Now, we will follow Ledbetter’s account of the end of Bretton Woods in 1971, up to the present.
The account of the 1971 devaluation was, following the pattern of this book, long on details but short on insight. It seemed to people at the time that they “had no choice,” thatSaturday, October 24, 2020 |

Read the opposite of what you believe |
People are naturally attracted to viewpoints that are similar to their own and to information that supports what they already believe. In fact, most people go out of their way to find articles and newsletters that are biased towards their pre-existing views of the world. However, they should do the opposite.
If you seek-out information that supports what you already think you know and exclusively read authors whose opinions match your own, you will never learn anything. All you will do is increaWednesday, August 26, 2020 |

the "Great Grain Robbery" of 1972 |
The Soviet Union purchased 3 million tons of United States feed grains in November of 1971. This constituted about 25 percent of the United States wheat crop and caused large price increases. It was initially thought that the Soviets were planning to buy only $150 million worth of grain. In July of 1972, however, the United States government signed a three-year agreement with the Soviet Union under which the Soviets agreed to purchase large amounts of grain from the United States. The Soviets made additional grain purchases from grain exporters. The Soviets used $750 million of credit supplied by the United States, plus $500 million of their own hard currency, to purchase corn, wheat, and soybeans. The Soviets bought when prices were still low. Prices exploded when the Soviet grain sales were announced.Sunday, July 26, 2020 |

The Gold Standard |
According to Mises, money’s function as a medium of exchange is thus the central one, while its store of value and unit of account functions are merely subordinate functions. I would say store of value and unit of account is what makes the medium of exchange marketable. The medium of exchange has to be simple to understand, not only by educated people but also the most uneducated. It has to be easily accessed, not only in ideal circumstances but also in difficult ones. Many things have been trieFriday, July 10, 2020 |

Precious Metals Leasing Explained |
Whatis precious metals leasing, and why is it done...?
LEASINGis an integral part of the precious metals market, writes Miguel Perez-Santalla at BullionVault.
Why is it necessary? For a diverse number of reasons, the first is the need for industry to borrow instead of buying outright the metal. This enables them to avoid owning the metal at a fixed price if they have not yet contracted to sell their product.Saturday, May 23, 2020 |
