A Monday Morning Musing from Mickey the Mercenary GeologistContact@MercenaryGeologist.comJanuary 15, 2018Price ratios determine relative value of the precious metals and are useful parameters in deciding which metal to buy at any given time.In previous musings, I documented the history of gold and silver prices and gold-silver ratios from the United States’ abandonment of the gold standard in August 1971 to present (Mercenary Musing, May 9, 2016) and followed with a similar treatment for platinuThursday, January 18, 2018 |

Year of the POP
If you'd like to read "Year of the POP", I'm sure you can guess where it can be found. ;D
At the Speakeasy, we discuss things like bullion, bitcoin, bubbles, banking, and much much more. As I did in Nine, at the ninth anniversary of this blog, and back in May at the second anniversary of the new Speakeasy, I have started a new tradition of sharing samples from the Speakeasy here. For this one, I picked a fun post from back in August. It's about the coat-check room view oTuesday, January 2, 2018 |

Carmageddon for Tesla |
This is where Hype Goes to Die.
Today was the monthly moment of truth for automakers in the US. They reported the number of new vehicles that their dealers delivered to their customers and that the automakers delivered directly to large fleet customers. These are unit sales, not dollar sales, and they’re religiously followed by the industry.
Total sales rose 0.9% from a year ago to 1,393,010 new vehicles, according to Autodata, which tracks these sales as they’re reported by the automakers. SaleMonday, December 4, 2017 |

Don’t Expect Palladium Prices to Plunge |
Over the past month, there has been a deluge of news heralding a new era of palladium, which has soared above the $1000 per ounce mark for the first time in the past 16 years. Moreover, palladium also overtook platinum and is still being traded at a premium to it. The overwhelming majority (78 percent) of the world’s palladium is used in gasoline-fueled cars’ catalytic converters, with minor volumes going into electronic resistor production and dental construction. A plethora of factors has beenThursday, November 9, 2017 |

Platinum Bullion ‘May Be One Of The Only Cheap Assets Out There’ |
Platinum “may be one of the cheap assets out there” and “is cheap when compared with stocks or bonds” according to Dominic Frisby writing in the UK’s best selling financial publication Money Week.
Platinum Bullion in USD (15 years)
Frisby writing in Money Week laments the total absence of value in today’s markets. He then identifies an asset that is both cheap (on a relative basis) and is valuable and the article is well worth a read:

Will the Death of Diesel Ruin Platinum |
The gloomy future of the diesel vehicles is commonly known. precious metals marketHowever, what does it really mean? And how could the demise of diesel technology impact the ?
The 1970s oil crisis and accelerating inflation made diesel-powered cars popular, especially in Europe where gasoline prices were always higher than in the U.S. The new technology was considered as more efficient and less polluting, as diesel cars produce less carbon dioxide than gasoline cars (thanks to better mileage). Investment Potential of Platinum and Palladium |
In the previous sections of this edition of the Market Overview, we presented the demand and supply outlook for platinum and palladium. In that part, we would like to analyze the potential benefits of adding these precious metals into investment portfolio.
On the surface, platinum and palladium behave similarly to the yellow metal. Indeed, as the chart below shows, there is an important positive correlation between prices of these metals and gold. It should not be surprising as all four main preFriday, July 28, 2017 |

Tsunami to Hit Germany: Five Auto Companies Admit to Illegal Cartel |
Unmasking an Illegal Cartel
The German auto scandal just got much bigger according to a new report by the Spiegel.
Audi, BMW, Daimler, Volkswagen, and Porsche colluded in all aspects of diesel technology.
Effectively, the five corporations acted as one via a series of secret working groups that met several times a year.
The Spiegel broke the story with its report on the Auto Syndicate Scandal.
The story is in German, and it’s also behind a pay wall. Eurointelligence has a nice Email report.

The King Dollar is mortally wounded. Many notice but the masses seem largely unaware. Since 1971, the Gold Standard has been removed from its anchor position. But since 1973, the Petro-Dollar has taken its place. It has called for crude oil sales led by the Saudis and OPEC to be transacted in USDollar terms, for oil surpluses to be stored in USTreasury Bonds, and for some kickbacks from the Saudis to the USMilitary complex for weapons purchases. Why Buy Silver 10 Reasons to Invest in Silver Now (w/ Charts) |
Is silver a good investment? Why should someone buy it?It’s natural and even prudent for an investor to wonder if a particular asset is a good investment or not. That’s especially true for silver, since it’s such a small market and doesn’t carry the same gravitas as gold. But at this point in history, there are compelling reasons to add physical silver to your portfolio (and only one is because the price will rise). Here the top 10 reasons why every investor should buy some silver bullion…#1 SilvThursday, June 29, 2017 |

The End Of Trust, And Rise Of Real Money |
In last week’s “historic market manipulation, setting the stage for catastrophe” – as well as dozens of other articles and podcasts – I demonstrated, in painstaking detail, the gross misallocations, inequities, and fraud caused by the artificial “support” of “favored” asset classes like stocks, bonds, and real estate – whilst the “unfavored” gold and silver markets were mercilessly suppressed, to equally deleterious global effect.
This weekend’s “wide world of PiMBEEB” demonstrated ten such situWednesday, May 31, 2017 |

Opec, Like The London Gold Pool, Proving Cartels Always Fail |
In Wednesday’s “historic market manipulation setting the stage for catastrophe,” my principal inference was that, per the time old adage, crime never pays. Perhaps in the short-term; but the longer a scam is perpetrated, the more vulnerable it becomes to its inevitable demise. Kind of like Fargo, when the initial plan to ransom Jerry’s wife morphed into a heinous killing spree, resulting in essentially all participating parties dying; as crime, like market manipulation, has significant unintenFriday, May 26, 2017 |

How Gold is Different |
"The present world gold market negates the true value of gold
by removing the “real demand” that “gold settlement” creates!
Break the mechanics of this market and you will find that
gold is the most valuable currency in today’s currency arena.
Many investors, today think that the answer to this dilemma
is for traders to take delivery and cause a short squeeze.
My friend, in this arena, taking delivery means settling in cash!
No, this market will not be destroyed by anyone but itself.

Big Oil Betting On Electric Vehicles |

Colin McKerracher, head of advanced transport analysis at Bloomberg New Energy Finance, sees Couse's forecast as the highest EV sales margin yet to be forecasted by a majoTuesday, May 2, 2017 |

This Little Known Metal Is What Keeps Elon Musk Up At Night |
This report from OilPrice.com is a paid advertorial.
Tesla just activated its battery gigafactory, and China is moving to hoard the world’s cobalt supplies at the same time that Trump promises a military build-up that can only happen with the precious metal. This all means supply panic for everything from the electric car break-out to the military industrial complex.
Right in the middle of this we have small-cap North American explorers—our new potential barons-in-the-making—in whose hands ourMonday, February 6, 2017 |
