Inflation rate rose slightly in September following an increase in the prices of several food items during the month.
Kenya National Bureau of Statistics data indicates inflation increased by 1.2 per cent to 6.34 per cent in September from 6.26 per cent recorded in August. Inflation was recorded at 6.39 per cent in July.
Between August and September, food and non-alcoholic drinks index increased by 0.55 per cent, largely driven by a sharp increase in the prices of irish potatoes, oranges, pawpaws and sugar.
Also on the rise were the prices of fish, fresh milk, maize, ripe bananas and beans.
“The year-on-year food inflation stood at 10.94 per cent in September 2016,” KNBS said.
