Brigadier Gold (TSX-V: BRG) Announces 2008
Exploration Program
Follow up on positive past results at Larder Lake,
Matachewan projects will be a priority
Larder Lake Project
The Larder Lake
Project is located just south of the Town of Larder Lake in Ontario’s prolific Kirkland
Lake-Larder Lake gold camp.
Albert Kokotow
Zone
Drilling on
the Albert Kokotow Zone (AK Zone), using a barge mounted drill, is planned to
begin in May or when Larder
Lake is ice free. This
drilling will follow up on positive results of the 16-hole drill program
completed during 2007, which included 2.35 metres of 5.161 g/t gold, 8.3 metres
grading 2.79 g/t gold, and 32.5 metres grading 0.675 g/t.
The AK Zone consists
of gold bearing alteration zones which have been traced to a depth of 110
metres. The zones are irregular but appear persistent, and plans are to drill
them to greater depth in 2008 using a barge-mounted diamond drill.
The planned
holes will test targets at vertical depths of 200 metres or more. An ice drilling
program from the surface of Larder
Lake was originally
planned for this winter but inability to create a thick enough ice pad to
support drilling operations forced the Company to revise its plans to a barge
mounted drill.
M-Island Gold Zone
Brigadier also
plans to use the barge-mounted equipment to drill a fence of holes in the
M-Island Gold Zone. The M-Island Gold Zone is north of the AK Zone, about two
km south of the Town of Larder Lake, and past exploration by Brigadier has
encountered visible gold in syenite hosted quartz veins. The planned fence will
cut across the northerly striking veins and test a magnetic anomaly beneath the
lake which may indicate the presence of an intrusive.
Matachewan Gold Project
The Company also
plans to further drill test its Matachewan Gold Project, a 780 hectare property
located 38 kilometres southwest of Kirkland
Lake. The Matachewan Gold
Project is believed to be transected by the western extension of the Kirkland
Lake-Larder Lake break.
Targets on the
project include follow-up on two diamond drill holes completed by Brigadier in
2004: hole CD04-11, which intersected 1.75 g/t gold over 13.0 m, including 3.98
g/t gold over 2.69 metres, and hole CD04-12, which cut 1.24 g/t gold over 7.5
metres. In addition, the Company plans to target an untested reverse
circulation gold anomaly which encountered “pristine” gold grains,
suggesting a nearby source. The drilling will be preceded by a limited amount
of geochemical surveying to further define the targets.
Hunter Gold Mine
Brigadier
holds an option with ValGold Resources Ltd. to acquire up to an 80% interest in
the historic Hunter Gold Mine. A past producer in the prolific Porcupine Gold
Camp near Timmins, Ontario which has produced over 60 million
ounces of gold, the Hunter Gold Mine is located on a 160 hectare land package
adjacent to the renowned Dome Mine.
An initial
drill program at the Hunter Gold Mine in 2007 returned low gold values in a
felsic volcanic unit beneath Porcupine
Lake. The exploration
data is presently being studied and compiled and a further drill test will be
considered in 2008 once all data has been reviewed.
Exploration is
supervised by L.G. Hobbs, P.Eng., Brigadier Gold’s Project Geologist and
a qualified person under National Instrument 43-101. Mr. Hobbs has reviewed and
approved the contents of this news release.
