North West: Friday, 06 November 2015. Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited ('Harmony' or 'the Company') advises that it has handed over two projects worth more than R12 million to the Kraaipan community, North- West province, close to its Kalgold mine.
The two projects - one being the Small, Medium and Micro-sized Enterprises (SMME) and skills development centre and the other being a water supply project - will assist the Ratlou community in facilitating skills diversification and creating a sustainable local economy. In addition, the water supply project (reverse osmosis plant) - will be providing clean drinkable water to the Kraaipan community.
An amount of R8.2 million was spent on the SMME and skills development centre, which includes a fully-equipped computer laboratory, fitted with 25 desktop computers, printers, a server machine, overhead projectors, white boards and pull down screens, where 30 local jobs were created. Harmony also provided approximately R3.6 million in funding towards the water supply project and 18 local jobs were created during the construction of the project. Additionally, a sewing and clothing manufacturing project worth R800 000 is currently empowering women in the business of sewing. By partnering with our communities surrounding our operations, they directly benefit through these projects.
