NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Here are 10 things you should know for Monday, March 16: 1. -- U.S. stock futures were looking up Monday as investors bounced back from a rocky trading week and braced for the Federal Reserve Open Market Committee meeting starting Tuesday. European stocks were buoyed by continued European Central Bank bond buying and ahead of the U.S. Federal Reserve meeting this week. 2. -- The economic calendar in the U.S. on Monday includes the Empire State manufacturing index report at 8:30 a.m. The Federal Reserve's index of industrial production is released at 9:15 a.m. The National Association of Home Builders' Housing Market Index reports survey data on the economy and the real estate market at 10 a.m. Investors are eagerly awaiting the Fed's Open Market Committee meeting, which takes place Tuesday and Wednesday. 3. -- U.S. stocks on Friday sank, as investors faced the fact that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates, possibly as soon as two and a half months from now. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 0.82% to 17,749.31. The S&P 500 closed off 0.61% to 2,053.40. The Nasdaq fell 0.44% to 4,871.76. 4. -- The Federal Reserve's Open Market Committee meeting begins Tuesday. Investors are on tenterhooks about the two-day meeting, which will likely hint about when the Fed might raise interest rates. |
