MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (AP) _ Symantec Corp. (SYMC) on Thursday reported fiscal second-quarter earnings of $156 million.
The Mountain View, California-based company said it had profit of 23 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were 44 cents per share.
The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 15 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 42 cents per share.
The security software maker posted revenue of $1.5 billion in the period, which matched Street forecasts.
For the current quarter ending in January, Symantec expects its per-share earnings to range from 22 cents to 25 cents.
The company said it expects revenue in the range of $890 million to $920 million for the fiscal third quarter. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had expected revenue of $1.63 billion.
Symantec shares have declined 19 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has increased 2 percent. The stock has dropped 16 percent in the last 12 months.
