NEW YORK (AP) -- U.S. stock indexes were moving between small gains and losses in midday trading as investors stepped back after a five-day rally.
DuPont soared 11 percent Tuesday after its embattled CEO said she would retire.
Energy companies climbed as the price of oil rose sharply, while biotechnology stocks took another tumble as investors worried about pushback on their pricing policies.
The Dow Jones industrial average edged up four points, less than 0.1 percent, to 16,781. It jumped 304 points the day before.
The Standard & Poor's 500 slipped 10 points, or 0.5 percent, to 1,976. The Nasdaq composite fell 55 points, or 1.2 percent, to 4,725.
The price of oil jumped 4 percent to $48.17 a barrel.
Bond prices rose. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note fell to 2.05 percent.
