I have endeavoured in this Ghostly little book, to raise the Ghost of an Idea, which shall not put my readers out of humour with themselves, with each other, with the season, or with me.

May it haunt their houses pleasantly, and no one wish to lay it. (stop it. belay)

Their faithful Friend and Servant,
Charles  Dickens
December, 1843.

Since it is Christmas Day, here are not one but two versions,  a lesser known one from 1935 and another from 1951.
The one I had been most familiar with as a child, the 1938 version with Reginald Owen as Scrooge, is not available on Youtube.
