Earlier this month we learned that the Obama Administration is significantly expanding the number of covert Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) agents overseas. From just a few hundred DIA agents overseas today, the administration intends to eventually deploy some 1,600 covert agents. The nature of their work will also shift, away from intelligence collection and more toward covert actions. This move signals a major change in how the administration intends to conduct military and paramilitary operations overseas. Unfortunately it is not a shift toward peace, but rather to an even more deadly and disturbing phase in the "war on terror."

Surely attacks on foreign countries will increase as a result of this move, but more and more the strikes will take place under cover of darkness and outside the knowledge of Congress or the American people. The move also represents a further blurring of the lines between the military and intelligence services, with the CIA becoming more like a secret military unto itself. This is a very troubling development.

In 2010, I said in a speech that there had been a CIA coup in this country. The CIA runs the military, the drone program, and they are in drug trafficking. The CIA is a secretive government all on its own. With this new expanded Defense Intelligence Agency presence overseas it will be even worse. Because the DIA is operationally under control of the Pentagon, direct Congressional oversight of the program will be more difficult. Perhaps this is as intended. The CIA will be training the DIA in its facilities to conduct operations overseas. Much of this will include developing targeting data for the president's expanding drone warfare program.

Already the president has demonstrated his preference for ever more drone attacks overseas. In Pakistan, for example, President Obama has in his first four years authorized six times more drone strikes than under all eight years of the Bush Administration. Nearly three thousand individuals have been killed by these drones, many of those non-combatants.

President Obama said recently of Israel's strikes against the Palestinians in Gaza, "No country on Earth would tolerate missiles raining down on its citizens from outside its borders." This announcement by the administration amounts to precisely that: the US intends to rain down ever more missiles on citizens overseas. I believe what the president says about Israel is true everywhere, so what about those overseas who live in fear of our raining missiles? How will they feel about the United States? Is it not possible that we may be inviting more blowback by expanding the covert war overseas? Does that make us safer?

An exhaustive study earlier this year by Stanford and New YorkUniversity law schools found that US drone strikes on Pakistan are "damaging and counterproductive," potentially creating more terrorists than they kill. Its recommendations of a radical re-appraisal of the program obviously fell on deaf ears in the administration.

Thousands of new DIA spies are to be hired and placed undercover alongside their CIA counterparts to help foment ever more covert wars and coups in foreign lands. Congress is silent. Where will it all end?

Congressman Ron Paul of Texas enjoys a national reputation as the premier advocate for liberty in politics today. Dr. Paul is the leading spokesman in Washington for limited constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, and a return to sound monetary policies based on commodity-backed currency. He is known among both his colleagues in Congress and his constituents for his consistent voting record in the House of Representatives: Dr. Paul never votes for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the Constitution. In the words of former Treasury Secretary William Simon, Dr. Paul is the "one exception to the Gang of 535" on Capitol Hill.

Ron Paul would have more credibility if he had not said that American deserved the 9/11 attack killing thousands of innocents because of our bases in other countries -- nevermine that we had been invited there by the ruling governements and that our presence injected vast amounts of money into the local economies.

Ron Paul would have more credibility speaking about how our Government ought to act if he even believed we ought to have a National Government at all, and not a collection of secessionist states.

Ron Paul would have more credibility about defending American if he ever acknowledged Iran, who constantly vows to annihilate our nation and Israel with nuclear weapons, was a threat.

Ron Paul would have more credibility if he just shut his mouth and returned to his professsion of delivering babies.

If only Jim C would have half the experience and intelligence that Ron Paul possesses we may very well see something very different coming from him.

Ron Paul has credibility well beyond your means Jim.
He has never wavered from his efforts to serve his country and to keep the truth from being buried.
He has credibility because he has seen details of what's happened in the last few years that go well beyond what you can ever access.
He has credibility because unlike you he never just tows the "party line'.
He has credibility because he doesn’t spread Washingtons lies, unlike you.
He has credibility because he has served his country in the military, as a doctor, and as most probably the only honest politician we’ll ever see in our lifetimes.

As for keeping ones mouth shut. Jim you have posted so many bone head comments that I can't determine why you still show up here. Is it possible that in your mind you are a great philosopher and writer and thus feel a need to enlighten us weary souls? It's reality check time. Remember Jim, the mind that creates the problem can’t see the problem. In this case you can't see how much of an ass you make of yourself when you say the types of things you did/do when it comes to Ron Paul. You need to start taking heed of what people say about you and your comments, take note otherwise there’s no chance that you ever evolve into anything that even resembles an intellectual being.

As for the 911 comments that Ron Paul and others make and have made. The US has consistently stirred things up and interfered in almost every country on the planet so that a few large organizations can reap benefits and Ron Paul has been consistent in his attacks against the evil axis that is the US government and the big business lobby. How can you then not expect retaliation to this interference? Are you so blind that you are unable to see covert aggression is still aggression? As for 911 itself, there is so much proof that it was an inside job (Washington planned and funded) that only willfully blind or ignorant individuals believe the mass media version of what happened.

Next time you feel like telling someone to keep their mouth shut, have a look at your track record first.

And Jim, at least Ron Paul has a profession.

Jim, you might have more credibility if you got your facts straight:
-Ron Paul has NEVER said that America "deserved" being attacked on 9/11. He said our foreign policy was cited by Osama BL as a reason to attack us. This is fact and part of a CIA report on the 9/11 attack. Most people in Saudi Arabia view US military bases/presence as foreign occupation, much the same way that a Chinese military base in New Mexico would be viewed as foreign occupation by me.
-Ron Paul believes in a strong federal government that stays within the framework of that quaint little document known as "The Constitution". Try reading it sometime, it is quite enlightening. Federal government is to ensure strong/stable monetary policy, strong national defense and enforce fair tariffs (originally the ONLY form of federal income) for trading.
-Iran is no more a threat to US security than Syria, Libya, Iraq, Vietnam, Korea, Kenya or nearly any other country on the planet. China and Russia are about the only two that could mount a serious threat to our borders.

Let's see, Ron Paul served in Congress for 12 years, served in the Air Force, ran for president 3 times and remained a principled voice of conservatism for over 30 years. What are your credentials Jim?
