Old Canadian joke from a fellow Canuck. Why did the Canadian cross the road? ...to get to the middle. David, this is predicated upon honoring the one thing you failed to mention and the one thing upon which everything holds together. Fiduciary duty. That seems to have been lost these days and is why I feel that MF Global may be a very important test case regarding how fiduciary duty is presently viewed. If not upheld and championed, I fear the next cycle may be a new one we haven't experienced yet...the "every man for himself" cycle. Although retired now, I still remember my grandfather telling why he kept his second fortune out of the reach of banks, the old mattress thing. They took his first one was why. That lesson must transcend the generations. We seem not able to resist revisiting those mistakes of which your teacher spoke. We need the constraints and value imparted inherently by the use of sound money. Everything else is digital, an electron....poof.
