I realized this was coming ten years ago. I was working on a project and needed some washers to support some hangars I was installing. There was a hardware store nearby, so I set off to buy some. When the shop proprietor told me the price of the steel washers was 3 cents each, I balked and decided to make my own from pennies. I used a Whitney punch to pop holes in the pennies, and got my installation completed that way. Cheap washers!

When the owner arrived to inspect the progress, He noticed I had used the pennies and questioned me about it. I joked with him that I only used the pennies because this installation did not require expensive hardware. If it did, then I would have used dimes.

Get rid of the small denomination coins. We'll all be better off.
