Rose was following someone's script, someone a little higher up the power ladder than he. Effective, insightful and honest journalists are a dying breed. Investigative reporting is quickly becoming a lost art; instead 'journalists' simply write what the government, corporations or military hands them. There may be the occasional in-depth story about a crack addicted mother, but little else. When truth does manage to leak out it's usually from a whistleblower and we all know what happens to them these days. If a real journalist happens to write an expose of some misconduct, malfeasance or just plain murderous or felonious behavior they are either threatened or not published. Gary Webb, sadly, was not the only journalist onto a big story who was murdered for dealing with the truth.
