>Take comfort, libertarians, the future is ours  - George F. Smith - Barbarous Relic
Deus ex machina?
Is it April 1 today?

“all of these technologies quickly become so inexpensive as to become almost free.”
And the profits for the technological advances are reduced to nil.
What great productivity advances has this technology enhanced and just how will it turn a profit?

Obviously the writer has forgotten that all these marvelous technologies are dependent on the distribution system.
If the technology has minimal pricing, will the market be willing to pay the price for distribution of something having minimal price?

"Better news: Technology is making us, as individuals, stronger."
No it doesn't. It makes us more ignorant.

Yah, all this enrapturement over technology when the vast majority of the people can't even light a campfire.
But with all this technology, at least they will be entertained while they freeze to death.
Except no profit results in no market potential.

Might I suggest that 3D printing is for the most part just another technological toy to entertain the masses with visions of sugar plums.
The author and those who seem to be eager to follow this Piped Piper need to read Issue #48 of Make: magazine.
Besides pointing out the limitations, the one major point missing in the reviews is the low printing speed.
But that will not stop the people who lack the ability to use a lathe or milling machine from bypassing 1st, 2nd and 3rd base from running towards home to play with this non-disruptive technology.
Can 3D printing reduce prototype fabrication costs? Possibly.
Can it compete with the more traditional means of production? Currently no and not for some time.
I find it most interesting that no mention was made of input commodities or the need for drafting skills.
Maybe the proponents assume that the owner/operators of these whiz-bangs will just download the files needed to control the printer.
But wait. There is a large subset of libertarians opposed to intellectual property rights.
No rights, no profit potential.

I suspect that Kurzweil, Kelly and this author have no experience with the technology they espouse as a bright future.
Never forget that the business of media is to sell advertising. Subscriptions might barely pay for distribution costs.
Yah, it is obviously April Fool's Day.

Beginning of the headline :Bad news: Government is getting bigger and more oppressive. Good news: As it gets bigger it also gets weaker. Better news: Technology is making us, as individuals, stronger. How do we know government is getting weaker?  Because it is sustained by central bank counterfeiting and debt, and the lies of state sycophants.   How long can massive fraud last?  To say that government is corrupt is saying water is wet.  The whole apparatus of government — a bandit gang writ large, in Rothbard’s f...
