Rather than the Saudis being the driving force behind driving oil prices down, I suspect that it is the Americans who are responsible, with the goal being regime change in Saudi. It is the Americans, after all, who have been drilling gang busters over the last few years despite the environmental degradation caused by fracking. Americans have a lot less to lose than the Saudis by driving the price down and more to gain.
