The question isn't whether you have high cholesterol. It's whether you have any artery blockage resulting from it. If you aren't predisposed to blockage it isn't going to happen regardless of what your "good" or "bad" reading is.
Many of these guys won't tell you there is also a ratio of good to bad that some believe is more important than what the numbers are. My numbers are high but the ratio is "good." My arteries are clean. Nevertheless the cardiologists want me on statins. I refuse.
"Bad" cholesterol is also thought to play a role in preventing Parkinsons. Get a heart scan. If your arteries are clean, screw the pills.
