>The Earth Shifts - James Howard Kunstler -
Good piece. I was with you until the climate change part. The big crop problems are politics, population, pestilence.

Certain countries refuse to acknowledge that we have stayed ahead of Malthusian disaster mainly because of technology and free enterprise. Increasing resistance to use of chemicals and genetically modified plants is slowing down technology improvements (I know you don't want to hear that). The wordwide depression has also put a damper on credit, which affects agricultural operations. Cropland is literally wearing out, from overplanting and poor management. There are also problems with bees and things. Finally, water supplies aren't keeping up with population growth.
