Yes, Mr. Kunstler may be right in his architectural assumptions. Sounds nice; yet it also sounds like people will have to have money to enjoy the new approach to urban living and Mr.Kunstler never stops reminding us of the chaos and change that is headed our way. I agree with him on that observation also. So, as I'm sitting in my ecologically 'balanced' walkable, livable and enjoyable community, sipping on my latte and nibbling on my ersatz brioche; have these new urban redesigners included a 'saferoom' where I can carry said latte and brioche to when the crowd of very pissed-off shopkeepers, investors, teachers, auto mechanics, firemen, professionals, financial 'advisors' and real estate brokers (all of whom are very unemployed) cascade past my table headed either to City Hall or the local Goldman franchise? First things first. The economy must possess a relative amount of stability before any of these potentially useful and practical ideas can be implemented. As it comes across now, Mr. K's idea sounds like the plot line from one of my daughter's "Amazing Adventures" comics.
