Food for thought
The history of fiat money is little more than a register of monetary follies and inflations. Our present age merely affords another entry in this dismal register.

What No One Wants to Hear About Benghazi  (23)
Your response is almost as good as the post, and has the advantage of brevity. However, you disparage the long cherished past time of tilting at windmills. tsk tsk tsk.

How to get the US economy going again  (2)
So, close to a perfect solution (as perfect as it gets anyway). Government intervention in any market distorts the market, so instead of having the government mandate some semi-fixed price for gold, why not just shut down the paper gold market. A physical only gold market would very quickly find, AND maintain, the equilibrium price. And the gold would flow, ballancing trade just as H.S.P. descibed. This model if...

Homeschooling: The Future of Liberty  (19)
You hit the nail on the head. The whole point of the Prussian model (what most Western countries use for publik school) is to prevent proper socialization by separating the children by age. It makes them much easier to manipulate and indoctrinate.

You have no idea what Capitalism really is, what we are experiencing now is NOT Capitalism, it is Fascism, a.k.a. Crony Capitalism. This country has not opperated on a capitalist system in over 100 years. Certainly not since the formation of a central bank.

So, you trust the government to find and report these things? This got past the government, just like the LIBOR mess did, and the banking industry is as regulated as it gets.
What is needed is an independent free-market solution. Something like Underwriters Labratories for the food and drug industries. Then consumers would not only have the power, they already do, but also reliable information.

Cattle Drive  (27)
I dunno Jim, I think JK was closer to reality this time, closer than usual anyway. The thing about shale oil is that it is really only economical to produce when oil prices are high. There are other oil sources in the US though that are not as high cost to produce, and the government does a good job of getting in the way, and taxing it to death.

We are very much in agreement on the state of things and what to do to be prepared. You are farther along than I, but we'll manage.

The zombie hord is going to be a scary and unfortunate situation.

I don't blame technology for any of our modern problems though. Without technology, there were, and maybe will be, a lot fewer people alive in the world. Certainly, many people have, and will, die...

Ha Ha! I am not JC. I disagree with him quite often, he goes too far. But on this occasion, I agreed with him. So, I take his posts on a case by case basis. That was my point in the previous comment that the Liberals don't even bother to read his posts, they just flame him regardless of what he writes.

Regarding technology and the economy, I think you have them confused. A failure of the economy wi...

Wow! Jim, you must really have hit a nerve. The liberals don't even read your posts, they just Flame On! Rational discussion is not an option. I guess they are really looking forward to getting down in the mud of a world made by hand. Or, maybe they think that somebody else will do the work for them. Not me!
Perhaps they don't realize that a simpler society, close to the land, means that everybody has t...

It is a rare day indeed where both JK and JC make points.
Yes, American culture is degraded. Families are falling appart. But this is not because we have tract housing and strip malls, roads, parking lots, etc... And JC is correct to point this out.
The degradation of American culture is due to, as JK points out, the absense of the father in many families. Why? Largely because of government progra...

Jim - I pretty much agree with you right up until your last statement. Robama or Obomney, whatever you want to call them. There is very little substantive difference between the two.

So, I am going to throw my vote away, nudge nudge wink wink, on Gary Johnson.

I noticed that too, that JHK does not seem to have a problem with totalitarianism, just dictators that don't herd the sheep in the way he , JHK, thinks is best for us.

It is the basic problem with Democracy, inevitably people try to use the government to dictate the behavior of their countrymen. To control them for 'their own good.'

I second the motion.

Why not have competition? Other government institutions have competing counterparts in the private sector.

However, I see no reason why it would not be possible, right now, to set up savings accounts in gold or silver. It seems to me that the restriction is on transactions being performed in ferns, err FRNs., not savings. So, in order for your debit card to complete a t...

Still standing amid the wreckage  (7)
The New Urbanists are just more socialist central planners with an architectural bent. A group such as this would never even consider that an individual person not only has the right to decide where and how they want to live, but that the individual is also the most qualified to make this decision. A free societey and central planning are incompatible, whether it be social, economic, monetary, or whatever.

Don't waste your breath. The people for whom this article is intended have a different world view. In other words, they live on a different planet.
