Gold is money, but, if I understand well, we have no use for it in the world, because of popular TV show and because the idea has been erased from conscious memory

The idea has not been lost from conscious memory, just wait for banks to go bust and you will see.

You might just want to check Mises regression theorem on money

You are right, Steve, gold mining production has nothing to do with the matter. But gold is not a commodity, it is a monetary metal. Thus the exceptionnal event will not be on production, but on availability in case of a monetary (fiat paper). As Antal Fekete said, the outcome will be : zero supply, infinite demand. You can imagine the effect on the price of gold. A black swan event. Totally exceptionna...

The highest form of civilization is a civilization where there is no government.

Come on. Lincoln was not anti slavery, you know that.

The war against southern independance has nothing to do with slavery and all about the empire. Nothing has changed, but it may be the time, or it will implode from within.

Revolutions on tax issues, I would follow that. American revolution and the american war for southern independance.

Concerning the French, the tax issue had become so obsolete that it was more productive not to work than work before the French revolution, and all the upper class was in a system of entitlements (charges) which had brought the debt level to unsustainable level. The system was going bro...

If I may, the remark of your business person " there will be no change until people are hungry and cold" is not true.

When the poor are hungry and cold, they do not make revolutions, because they cannot take the risk and know that they will die of cold and hunger if things go wrong.

Revolutions and change are made either by the structure in power when it cannot be fed or kept at bay anymore,...

- Japan having no inflation. Prices in Japan should have plummeted, which was not possible because the debt structure would have crushed the banks. Prices being stable can very well be the consequence of very high inflation, when prices should have fallen,

- On boom and bust in the gold standard. Boom and bust come from fractional reserve banking, gold ...

The Only Choice on November 6th  (43)
The problem with voting is that as you have been well educated and, as a gentleman, you have been taught to loose gallantly.

But when the game is rigged, there is no way to win. And if there is no way to win, to loose gallantly becomes and absurdity.

This is, to me, the rationale for not voting. Do not participate in a game in which you can only lose.

Thus do not feel compelled to a...

Thanks for your answer. I maintain that Economics is an a priori science, but differs from physics, for example, in the fact that humans have freedom of choice, whereas observed objects in physics do not.

Thus the same causes have the same effets, but you cannot time the occurence, nor know exactly how it will happen.

A few examples : Print money and you get inflation, control prices and yo...
