Penoles first acquired an interest i nthe district with its acquisition of 60% of Compania Fresnillo in 1961. In 1966 Penoles acquired the remaining 40%, bringing the Fresnillo Mine into Penoles sole ownership. |

The Fresnillo mine is located approximately 60 kilometres northwest of Zacatecas City, the capital of the State of Zacatecas, in one of the oldest mining districts in Mexico.

1961 - Peñoles acquires an equity interest in the Fresnillo mining district with a 60% acquisition of Compañía Fresnillo.
