The Barbrook Mine has been on care and maintenance since 2006. Ore produced from Barbrook in the past was refractory, and under previous ownership, several processing methods were trialled to improve gold recovery rates.

The Barbrook Project contains more than 60 known mineralised shoots of varying dimensions and extent, and geologically associated with two prominent, parallel, regional fault lines known as the Barbrook Line and Zwartkoppie Line.
