The Cantón Aguas Blancas was mined by many well established oficinas, among them Eugenia, Petronila, Esmeralda, San Gregorio, Renacimiento, San Martín, María Teresa, Cola, Pepita, Yugoeslavia, Agua Buena, Bonasort and Oriente. The ruins of some of the oficinas still stand. Most of the oficinas were connected to the local railroad system, established since 1903 from Aguas Blancas to Caleta Coloso.
