| History of the Empress Project |
|
Empress is one of Zimbabwe's four nickel mines, producing about 2,000 tons a year. Rio Tinto said earlier this year that the mine had become uneconomical because of a slump in the world price of nickel, and even a 20 percent devaluation of the Zimbabwe dollar earlier this month apparently was not enough to save it.
