The Maud Creek goldfield was discovered about 1890 and a battery was set up for gold production but the field was abandoned by 1891. The field was re-opened during the Great Depression between 1932 and 1934.

Creek gold project area comprise the Tollis Formation, Maud Dolerite, Edith River Volcanics, and Kombolgie Formation.
