It was identified early in the 2000s by soil geochemical.

|
The Clay Lake target has three main areas of mineralisation: Cargalisgorran, Tivnacree and Clay Lake.
An extensive gold anomaly, with a known surface expression to date of approximately 3500m by 1500m. Over one part of this anomaly, at Cargalisgorran and Tivnacree, bedrock comes close to surface and subsequent trenching showed elevated gold values.
