The manganese ores of the Kalahari Manganese field are contained within a sequence of Pre-Cambrian sediments of the Transvaal Supergroup and are confined to the Hotazel formation of the Griqualand West Sequence. The manganese orebodies exhibit a complex mineralogy and more than 200 mineral species have been identified.
