Location of the El Abra Project
The facilities of Sociedad Contractual Minera El Abra are in Chile’s El Loa province, 47 miles north of the city of Calama, in the southern side of the Pajonal hill, at 3,900 to 4,100 meters above sea level
 
History of the El Abra Project
Mining operations began in 1996. A feasibility study was completed in 2006 that would extend the mine life by 10 years and is expected to provide an additional 325 million pounds of copper per year
 
Geology of the El Abra Project
The predominant oxide copper minerals are chrysocolla and pseudomalachite. The predominant primary sulfide copper minerals are bornite and chalcopyrite. The secondary sulfide mineralization is chalcocite.
