Formerly 50% owned by Goldcorp, the Goldcorp interest in La Coipa was part of an exchange between Kinross and Goldcorp, which gave the latter full ownership of the Porcupine and Musslewhite gold mines in Canada. |

Location of the La Coipa Project |
The La Coipa gold and silver mine is located in northern Chile, approximately 1,000 kilometres north of Santiago and 140 kilometres northeast of the city of Copiapó.

|
History of the La Coipa Project |
The earliest written information about La Coipa as a precious metal prospect dates back almost a century, when a small underground copper-silver mine was in operation about 2 kilometers southeast of the present day operations. Regional resources have been sporadically exploited since then, but the La Coipa area itself did not receive any attention from exploration geologists until the late 1970s.

Geology of the La Coipa Project |
|
The property is located in the northern Chilean Tertiary volcanic belt generally known as the Maricunga Belt. The mineral deposits were formed by the precipitation of gold and silver from circulating mineral bearing hydrothermal fluids in fracture and breccia zones. These permeable zones are controlled by major faults.
