Aur’s 76.5% interest in Quebrada Blanca was purchased from Teck Cominco Limited in November 2000 at a cost of $304 million. Inversiones Mineras S.A. and ENAMI own a 13.5% and 10% interest in this deposit, respectively.
Location of the Quebrada Blanca Mine
The Quebrada Blanca mine is located in northern Chile approximately 170 kilometres southeast of the port city of Iquique and 1,500 kilmetres north of Santiago. The mine is located at an elevation of more than 4,000 metres.
 
History of the Quebrada Blanca Mine
The Quebrada Blanca mine is an open-pit truck-and-shovel operation, employing standard drilling and blasting techniques. The mine processing facilities produce copper cathode by utilizing crushing, agglomerating, stacking, heap leaching, dump leaching and solvent extraction and electrowinning (SX-EW) processes.
