MAE LAMA TUNGSTEN PROPERTY EXPLORATION UPDATE
Vancouver, BC November 14, 2007 Amanta Resources Ltd. (TSX-V: AMH) wishes to report that the initial exploration activities at the Companys Mae Lama tungsten prospect continue to move forward. The initial 10-hole core drilling programme is now well advanced, as are mapping and sampling programmes and activities to gain access to the former working faces at the mine.
The Company is pleased to report that it has been able to confirm the previously reported high-grade nature of the tungsten mineralisation within the main Mae Lama quartz vein. Amanta field crews have been working to gain access to some of the workings associated with the former production operation at the property and have succeeded in accessing the Level 7 Adit, the last level from which production was reported prior to the termination of mining activity in the mid-1980s, due to the collapse of world tungsten prices.
Within the adit, Amanta geologists have observed large individual wolframite crystals, masses of smaller crystals and other massively mineralised patches, with one individual crystal measuring about 30 cm in length. Wolframite is the chief ore of tungsten, often being associated with tin.
It has been confirmed that the wolframite is not finely disseminated throughout the quartz vein, but rather occurs as discrete high grade mineralised areas. The production head grade for the former operation at Mae Lama was reported to be in excess of 2% WO3.
At this time it is uncertain how extensive the mineralised zone is. The Company is now restoring the underground access to a safe state, to permit channel sampling to be undertaken, to indicate potential widths and grades of the wolframite zone. When the overall stability of this adit and others currently being re-entered is confirmed, the Company plans to take larger bulk samples from the main vein to better assess the potential average grades throughout the main vein.
The core drilling programme continues to progress and Hole # 7 of the programme is underway. Of the holes drilled to date, some are testing the lateral and depth extensions of the main vein, while others are testing the numerous smaller quartz veins identified throughout the property. Although assay results are not yet available, visible wolframite crystals were evident in two drill holes which intersected the vein some 100 m below the lowest of the old working levels, thus indicating that the Mae Lama vein contains tungsten mineralisation to a depth of at least 200 m. The vein appears to have an average thickness of about 1.5 m and its extent on surface can be traced for at least 600 m.
High grade tungsten deposits, like Mae Lama, typically occur as discrete large crystal assemblies of wolframite within the quartz matrix, rather than being disseminated throughout the vein. While drilling will be valuable in establishing possible tonnage, channel and bulk sampling will offer a more accurate method of establishing potential average grades for the deposit, as core drilling can tend to over or under estimate grades in such high grade wolframite deposits.
