Oil services giant Wood Group hands file on controversial Monaco firm Unaoil to investigators
- Unaoil has been under criminal investigation by the SFO since 2016 over bribery
Oil services giant Wood Group, whose customers include BP and Shell, has completed an internal probe into its dealings with a controversial Monaco firm and handed its file to investigators.
The inquiry, launched in May last year, found payments were made through an old joint venture company to Monaco-based Unaoil, which has been under criminal investigation by the Serious Fraud Office since 2016 over suspected bribery, corruption and money laundering.
Probe: Wood Group's customers include BP
Investors in the FTSE 250 firm are waiting to find out whether the SFO or Scotland’s Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service will further probe the links.
The SFO, as well as the US Securities and Exchange Commission and the US Department of Justice, is already investigating Amec Foster Wheeler – a company that Wood Group bought for £2.2billion last year – over its dealings with Unaoil.
