Vancouver, BC - ATW Venture Corp (TSX-V: ATW) (Frankfurt: A3N)
, ("ATW" or "the Company"), is pleased to announce that the Company will re-commence drilling on its Amarillo project in Southern Argentina.
The Amarillo gold-copper-silver project is located within the Veladero-El Indio gold belt in the Argentine Andes, 160 km NW of San Juan. This belt is host to several major deposits, including Barrick's, Veladero deposit (12.6 million ounce gold reserve) and Pascua Llama deposit (18.3 million ounces gold reserve) as well as the very high grade El Indio copper gold mine.
In 2007, an exploration program of eight core holes for 2,600 meters (m) was planned to test epithermal gold and copper-gold porphyry occurrences. Only two core holes totaling 899m were completed to target depth in the Poposa area. Two holes totaling 294m were drilled in the Esperanza area but did not reach target depth as the drill program was halted due to the onset of winter (refer to June 14, 2007 News Release).
The Company has contracted Major Drilling International Inc. to drill a minimum of 1400 meters to test deep copper mineralization within an area where previous drilling encountered strong quartz/pyrite stockworks and anomalous copper. The Company is recommencing the drilling of the number one target area, Esperanza, where previous attempts (ATW-AM01 and ATW-AM04) failed due to weather and technical difficulties. This upcoming program will test Esperanza and two other copper-gold targets nearby. In addition, drilling will also test for gold/copper mineralization on the north end of the property where previous operators drilled up to 11 meters of 1.6 g/t gold.
The Amarillo project covers over 40 square kilometers of intensely altered sedimentary and intrusive rocks that represent the upper levels of two or more large porphyry-related hydrothermal systems. The primary target is an upper level porphyry copper/gold prospect hosted by dacitic to rhyo-dacitic hypabyssal intrusives which display strong argillic to sericitic alteration with locally well developed quartz/pyrite stockworks and vuggy quartz veinlets. The project's geologic setting is similar to the setting at Newmont-Buenaventura's Yanacocha mine in Peru.
ATW is earning a 70% interest in the Amarillo property from Marifil Mines Ltd (MFM: TSX-V).
