SYRACUSE, N.Y. - National Grid today turned the lights back on of the iconic National Grid building in downtown Syracuse, NY. Employees delighted in watching an array of LED lighting and sign wave sequences that demonstrated the full capacity of a lighting upgrade and maintenance project at the building. The six month project included the installation of over 880 energy efficient LED lights in the tower section and exterior of the building, and repairs to the lighting control system.
'It was time we made the necessary upgrades to the building's lighting system,' said Doneen Hobbs, vice president, US Shared Services, National Grid. 'Maintaining the system is vital to our continued commitment to environmental sustainability and expected to enhance the building's prominent array of colorful lighting especially over the coming holiday season.'
Adding to the spirit of the season, 25 employees decorated the lobby and large, street level windows of the historic downtown building with holiday themed displays. Two windows prominently feature the company's support of US veterans and its commitment to safety.
'National Grid takes seriously the building's role as a signature landmark in the Syracuse skyline,' said Melanie Littlejohn, UNY regional executive director, National Grid. 'The lighting upgrades will help to shine even more proudly the company's continued support of community based organizations and their advocacy, an honor we do not take lightly.'
An Art Deco masterpiece in downtown Syracuse, the National Grid building was last refreshed in 1999 by famed lighting designer Howard Brandston. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was featured earlier this year in Central New York Spaces.
