| La création monétaire, du moins de pièces métalliques et de billets de banque, est un privilège régalien et celle de la monnaie scripturale, du fait des États et des banques centrales. Le problème de cette création monétaire ex nihilo, depuis qu’elle n’est adossée à aucun actif tangible comme l’or, c’est que la monnaie perd sa fonction de réserve de valeur.

| Au cours du troisième trimestre de 2016, la production d’or globale a chuté de 0,5%. Les sociétés minières ont apporté 846,6 tonnes sur le marché, contre 851,2 tonnes au troisième trimestre de 2015. Bien qu’il ne s’agisse pas d’un déclin très important, il marque le second trimestre consécutif de baisse de la production d’or sur un an. La tendance actuelle est au plateau, et ne fait qu’augmenter les chances que nous approchions, ou ayons déjà atteint, le pic de l’or.
