Peter, your original image ~ of someone holding gold and looking at this in the mirror ~ is an error. A more accurate image would be someone holding up a Quantum Physics Theory: a world monetary system backed only by the mirror-image of "faith" in that theory.

While you're hammering out a solution, trying to repair the monetary system, you should take a moment to realize that some of the smartest people on earth are in power ~ and already know ALL the possible solutions ~ but are KNOWINGLY refusing to adopt any of them. Why are The Powers so intent on the destruction of the monetary system?? With that in mind, it becomes a Sherlock Holmes axiom: when every possible explanation has been eliminated you will be left with the ONLY truth possible !

I don't know the answer: but I suspect the motivation behind the collapsing monetary system is NOT economics at all.
