I agree w/Mr. Roache. Unless you have the gold or silver bullion IN YOUR HAND, you have counterparty risk. ETFs with a few exceptions (CEF & Sprott's products come to mind), have significant counterparty risk. Gold has been created out of thin air, and it is called GLD. Don't confuse it with the real stuff. As Max Kaiser says: "Got Phyzz?"
