>Lying is the new Normal  - James Howard Kunstler -
I don't understand James' reflexive insults to people who don't live in NYC. Who is more likely to already be making things by hand? The midwesterners he makes snide comments about or the wine and croissants crowd in the Village? The average Tea Party guy, whom he has never actually hung out with for a day (that's an open invitation by the way) is far more likely to share his feelings and ideas and aspirations for the future.
I read James because he is one of the most talented and truly witty writers out there. He makes me laugh even though I am often the target of his humor. I am one of "them", but James doesn't realize he is more one of "us" than the elite big city snobs he is forced to cavort with.
Yes James, I believe you are an unhappy man because you belong out here with the folks who have to your surprise read all the trendy or avant garde writers you have, and can discuss the Federal Reserve in more detail than any big city clown, and get our hands in the dirt and hands on the tools and wood and rock.
Do we have NASCAR boobs with no teeth that look like they are from Deliverance? Sure. But they aren't any less scary than some of the creatures I've seen in NYC and there are far fewer of them.
Come on out to the Midwest and meet the people who will be the first to thrive if we have a World Made By Hand. You'll have fun and I promise you there will be no lack of informed, sophisticated thinkers to keep you stimulated.

What I'd like to know is how come he was "buried at sea," when the operation took place at least a thousand miles from the sea. Did the US Navy Seals transfer his remains from a helicopter to a boat? Or to an airplane? And did they just drop him over the night-darkened Indian Ocean like a sack of lentils? By the time you read this, the whole world will be clamoring for photos of the deceased...
