The Island Copper property is situated approximately 20 kilometres northeast of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and is connected to the port city by a paved highway and a railroad line that cross the southern part of the property. Access to the interior of the property is by means of skidder trails.

The Island Copper Mine was a 50,000 tonnes/day open-pit copper/gold/molybdenum/silver mine that opened in 1971 and closed in 1995. It was the first mine in the world to use "engineered" submarine tailings disposal. Nearly 360 million tonnes of finely ground tailings were placed on the seafloor of nearby Rupert and Holberg Inlets without significant long-term effects on benthic life

The Island Copper Property covers Archean granitic and mafic gneisses that have undergone deformation that produced microbreccias and minor schist. These rocks occupy a wedge formed by east and northeast trending crustal structures that allowed access to deep-sourced mineralizing fluids.
