The MTM mining and milling complex is located approximately 80 kilometers east of Nashville.

Tennessee has a history of mining dating back to the 18th century. In the 1980s and 1990s tennessee was the major producer of zinc in the USA. The Middle Tennessee Mines - Elmwood, Gordonsvill, Carthage, Stonewall and Cumberland, together with the Gordonsville concentrator and Elmwood tailings facility - collectively the "MTM", accounted for a major part.

Tennessee mining district contain primary sphalerite mineralization with economic grade mineralization residing in stratabound collapse breccias and dissolution cavities in Mascot Dolomite. The mineralized breccias can range from 100 to 250 feet thick and 50 to 600 feet wide.
