| Anadarko trades target long-term floor | |

|
Traders are betting on a long-term floor in shares of Anadarko Petroleum, which has lost more than half its market value in recent months.
optionMONSTER's monitoring programs show that more than 28,000 January 2017 25 puts were sold for $3.35 to $4.70 yesterday. Volume was more than 55 times open interest at the strike, which indicates that new money was put to work.
Short puts lock in a price where investors must buy a stock, while letting them collect premium. Traders use the technique when they like a stock and think that the risk of a big drop is limited. (See our Coaching section)
APC rose 8.58 percent to $33.16 yesterday but is down 58 percent in the last three months. The oil and gas producer's next quarterly report is scheduled for after the close on Feb. 1.
Overall option volume in Anadarko was 3 times greater than average yesterday.
