NORTHERN  GOLD ANNOUNCES COMMENCEMENT OF Diamond DRILLING AT THE NEW HIGH GRADE GOLD DISCOVERY ON THE KIRANA PROPERTY

Toronto, Ontario (July 28, 2008):  Northern Gold Mining Inc. (TSX-V NGM) is pleased to announce that it will commence Diamond drilling Mon. July 28^th 2008 on the recently discovered high grade Matheson Zone in the Fidelity area on its Kirana property.  Cabo Drilling (Ontario) Corp. has been contracted to drill a 1^st phase 2,000 metre NQ drill program to test and define the form and structure of the recently discovered high grade mineralization. As announced on July 23, 2008, Northern Gold Mining has uncovered high-grade mineralization with selected samples assaying as high as 2305.12 g/t Au (67.22 oz/ton) in a pervasive quartz-iron carbonate flooding named the Matheson Zone on its Kirana property. The property lies 5 kms to the northeast of the prolific Kirkland Lake gold camp, where to date more than 24 million ounces of gold have been produced. The Kirana Claim Group comprises 86 contiguous claim units, 4 patent blocks and an isolated block of 8 more claim units just south of the main group. 

Though grade continuity will be tested with this program the primary goal will be to define the morphological characteristics of the mineralization for effective definition drilling to follow. To achieve this purpose different drill azimuth directions will be tested in a series of short holes generally less than 100 metres in length. The program will be flexible with observations from the initial holes guiding the remainder of the program. This program will be followed by a more extensive and deeper 5,000-10,000 metre drill program stepping out along strike and deeper down-dip on the Matheson Zone as well as testing regional targets along the Kirana Break. Northern Gold's Kirana property covers 6.2 kms of the Kirana Break strike length to the east of the new discovery area. 

Additionally Northern Gold Mining has contracted Geotech Ltd. to fly a VTEM Time Domain EM survey over the Kirana property. The survey will cover approximately 434 line kms. Northern Gold Mining will be looking for a reference signature over the Matheson Zone that can be traced and duplicated over other areas along the Kirana Break to provide immediate targeting for subsequent Diamond drilling. The survey is expected to be flown in the week of July 27^th to Aug. 1^st, 2008. 

Over the past week Northern Gold Mining has continued its extensive power-stripping, washing and sampling program. Irregular channel sampling is currently underway across the Matheson Zone. The steep undulating nature of the topography, near vertical locally, over which this zone lies prevents Northern Gold from cutting regular, systematic channel samples over it. 

Results of this sampling program and the sampling procedures have been reviewed by R.V. Zalnieriunas P.Geo. an independent consulting geologist who is the "Qualified Person" as defined by NI 43-101 for this project.
