VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - May 25, 2011) - Saturn Minerals Inc. (News - Market indicators) ("Saturn" or the "Company") is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Krzysztof Mastalerz, PhD, P.Geo., to the Board of Directors of the Company as well as Vice-President of Exploration.
Dr. Mastalerz has 30 years of international experience in academic, research, exploration and consulting geology. Dr. Mastalerz earned his Doctorate in Natural Sciences from the University of Wroclaw, Poland, in 1990 with the completion of his PhD dissertation on the sedimentology of coal-bearing formations in Poland. From 1981 to 1994 Dr. Mastalerz taught structural geology, geological mapping and sedimentology at various levels of academia and universities in Poland. From 1991 to 1993 he supervised and executed detailed mapping projects for the Polish Geological Survey in southwestern Poland. Since 2007, Dr. Mastalerz has served as the chief consulting geologist to most of Saturn's exploration projects and has been instrumental to the Company's coal discoveries made to date. Under the direct supervision of Dr. Mastalerz, the Company has developed a proprietary model for coal exploration in eastern Saskatchewan and western Manitoba which has been successfully tested, most recently in 2011 with the Karolina coal discovery (89.98 m thick coal intersection at 45 m depth). Dr. Mastalerz is also responsible for identification of evidence of hydrocarbons in drill core material from the Company's coal drill campaigns, which establishes the potential for hydrocarbon exploration in the Hudson Bay area of eastern Saskatchewan.
"We are very happy to welcome Dr. Mastalerz to his formal role with Saturn, and are eager to continue providing the support he and our technical staff require for coal and hydrocarbon exploration and to realize to full potential of Saturn's properties," stated Stan Szary, President of Saturn.
