"We are very pleased with the
consistency of mineralization encountered at the Zafranal Main Zone. These
ongoing results support the resource estimation work that is currently
underway at Zafranal," states Bruce Turner, President & CEO.
Today, the company reports drill results
from 13 diamond drill holes. (View AQM's drill plan map).
Drill holes ZFDDH10-119 and ZFDDH10-124
extend the known limits of copper mineralization further to the north than
previously recognized. Of particular significance is the presence of copper
mineralization in the northwestern portion of the deposit (ZFDDH10-119),
where very little surface alteration is visible.
Some of the drill holes reported today are infill holes designed to get a better understanding of
the geometry of the primary and secondary copper zones in view of the
upcoming resource estimate. Holes ZFDDH10-122, ZFDD10-123, ZFDDH10-125,
ZFDDH-127 and ZFDDH10-129 were all aimed at filling in areas where there was
insufficient information at depth. Hole ZFDDH10-125
extends mineralization deeper than previously seen.
Holes ZFDDH10-120 and ZFDDH10-121 were
drilled near the known limits of mineralization and have confirmed the
extents of the Main Zone along their respective sections.
Holes ZFDDH10-118, ZFDDH10-126,
ZFDDH10-128 and ZFDDH10-130 were all drilled near the southern extent of
mineralization along their respective sections. All of these holes have
intercepted significant mineralization that shows the zone remaining open
towards the south.
Drilling through October has focused on
a 2.4km long segment of the 3.5+km east-west trending intensely mineralized
Main Zone, one of six porphyry copper-gold targets within the Zafranal
project. The Company continues an aggressive drill program at Zafranal having
now completed more than 63,000m of diamond and RC drilling this year. The
Company plans to publish an NI43-101 compliant resource estimate in Q4. AQM
is the operator of a 50/50 JV with Teck Resources Limited through a sole purpose
Peruvian company being formed for the Zafranal Project, as announced in its
press release on July 8, 2010.
The Company has established a rigorous
QA/QC program at Zafranal, which includes the insertion of blanks, duplicates
and certified standards into the sample stream. Core is photographed on site
and subsequently sawed in half, with one half sent for analysis and the other
half stored for future reference and assay verification. RC chips are split
twice on site using a riffle splitter, with 25% of the sample being sent to
the laboratory for assay and the rest stored for future verification
purposes. All Zafranal samples are shipped to ALS Chemex's sample preparation
facility in the city of Arequipa, where they are crushed and pulverized.
Prepared samples are shipped to ALS Chemex's certified laboratory in Lima
where they are analysed for gold, copper and multi-element ICP.
Dr. Tom Henricksen, consultant geologist
of the Company and Chief Geologist for AQM Peru, the Company's Qualified
Person for the purposes of NI 43-101, has approved the information contained
in this news release.
