THOUSAND OAKS, California -- November 06, 2007 --
Teledyne Technologies Incorporated announced today that Teledyne
Brown Engineering, Inc., of Huntsville, Ala., has been awarded a
contract from the Department of Defense to design, develop,
integrate, test, manufacture and deliver the Joint Material
Decontamination System (JMDS) to U.S. military forces.
The
JMDS will be designed to remove toxic contamination as a result of
nuclear, biological and chemical weapons from sensitive electronic
equipment, command posts, aircraft and avionics, and other
applications where water and harsh decontamination materials could
damage or destroy items being decontaminated.
"With
the award of the JMDS, Teledyne Brown will leverage its strength in
engineered systems to deliver a technology that the Department of
Defense has sought for many years," said Robert Mehrabian, chairman,
president and chief executive officer of Teledyne Technologies.
The
initial contract, valued at $14.7 million, calls for Teledyne Brown
to develop and test the JMDS. Teledyne Brown will also prepare
associated documentation, and provide training, logistics, technical
and field support.
Follow-on options call for low rate initial production and
final production of JMDS on successful demonstration of system
performance. For this effort, Teledyne Brown is teamed with
BIOQUELL, PLC (UK:BQE) of Andover, England, a full service provider
of biological decontamination equipment and services for hospitals
and other critical applications.
