Drilling
Commences at Keewatin Uranium, Gold and Copper Project, Nunavut
Tri
Origin Exploration Ltd. (TOE:TSX-V) is pleased to report
that a diamond drilling program has commenced at the Keewatin project located
120 kilometres west of Arviat in the Kivalliq District of Nunavut. Drilling is
planned to consist of a minimum of 1000 metres in 6 holes targeting previously
defined zinc, copper, gold and uranium targets. The project area comprises 5
separate claim blocks totaling 24,000 acres. Tri Origin is earning a majority
interest in the claim blocks from BHP Billiton Diamonds Inc.
During 2006, Tri Origin
identified a significant new uranium target area and discreet copper/zinc and
gold targets were also outlined for drilling. During last year’s program,
grab samples of boulders, located at a prospect initially identified for its
copper/zinc potential returned assays of 8,500 parts per million and 3,380
parts per million uranium, which equate to 22.1 and 8.8 lbs per tonne U3O8,
respectively. These "hot" boulders were found 30 metres from a strong
airborne EM conductor that will be drilled during the current program.
A gold target located 8
kilometres southwest of the uranium-bearing boulders will also be evaluated by
drilling. Previous work by Tri Origin has reported values of up to 18.7 and 4.8
grams of gold per tonne from grab samples of boulders and outcrop,
respectively. This mineralization is also associated with untested geophysical
anomalies. Copper-bearing float has also been encountered at a number of other discreet
target areas and will be tested by drilling.
Proterozoic-age rocks
similar to those at Keewatin are important
hosts to major uranium, gold and base metal districts world-wide.
Management is encouraged by the extent and style of mineralization detected
during its previous programs at Keewatin and
looks forward to results from the drill program now underway. It is anticipated
that the program will be completed and results available by the end of August.
